Flower Projects at Practical Scrappers

I've got two new projects for you (it sure has been awhile, huh?). Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring projects using flowers on them. Now right before Christmas, I bought myself an early Christmas present from My Favorite Things Stamps. I fell in love with their Die-namics dies, which wasn't hard to do considering my love for my Cuttlebug. No matter where my scscrapping takes me, I know my Cuttlebug is here to stay!

Snowman Soup

Today is my day to share a holiday project idea at Practical Scrappers, and here's what I came up with-- my altered to go insulated coffee cups. I found these to go cups at my local Joann's in their bargain bins for $2.50 each ( and I used my coupon to over the holiday to get another 20% off ). These cups I made for my kids' teachers to go with the other little gift I made for them.

These were super easy to make! When I got the cups they had another piece of paper in them. I traced them on my favorite paper (Crate Paper -Snow Day Collection) and embellished with the matching chipboard, cardstock cut outs, and cardstock borders.

Here's a look at just one of the cups up close. Next, I filled each cup with a package of hot chocolate mix, a bag of mini marshmallows, and added a Wilton peppermint swirl candy cane which you can see down below.

Finally, I made my little "snowman soup" tag. Now, there are a couple of different poems out there for "snowman soup", but I picked the one I liked best and printed it out. Here's an up close picture of the tag which reads:

Was told you've been real good this year

Always glad to hear it!

With freezing weather drawing near,

You'll need to warm the spirit!

So here's a little Snowman Soup

complete with stirring stick.

Add hot water, sip it slow,

It's sure to do the trick!

October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness and the importance of it is very dear to me (having a scare myself). It struck even closer though this past year to my husband and I when I co-worker of his was diagnosed at 33 years old. Just goes to show you age doesn't matter. Today also kicks off our first ever card contest at Practical Scrappers. It's been a huge turn out and I'm so excited to see how our contenders do with our challenges over the next six weeks. But this first round the theme is PINK and the perfect color for a breast cancer awareness card...

Card Using Die Cut

Hi Everyone...Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring cards using Die Cuts. I made 8 of these wedding shaker cards ( getting ready for the craft fairs still) and this is probably one of my favorite cards I've made.

I cut the champagne glasses with a free SVG I found from Lea. What I did was cut the 3 of the shadow of the glasses- 2 on white card stock and 1 one from a tranparency. Then I cut one of each of the peices from the svg file and used the piece that was supposed to be the champagne in the glass. I traced that on one of the shadow pieces I cut on the white cardstock and hand cut that with my exacto knife. I then glue that piece to the top of the the cut transparency. Here where I create the shaker part: I used my Scotch's foam mounting tape and place it along the entire "bowl" of the glass. I then filled that with glitter, removed the backing off the tape, and added the second white cardstock shadow of the glasses to create the back. When that was all put together, I added some diamond stickles to the front to dress it up. Also, the black scroll was a die cut I cut from my Cricut (storybook cartridge).

NEW Mini Album

Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring one of my most things to create--mini albums. Most of the time I usually create mini word albums, but this time I tried out something I've never done before and that is use paper bags as my album pages. This was a lot of fun and very easy to assemble- probably the quickest I've ever put a mini together. Here's a look at the it...

For the cover, I used cardboard that I covered. Other paper bag mini's I've seen have a 1 inch binding. Well, if you are like me then go at least 2 inches. I ended up cutting my original binding (it was all the pink pattern paper) and having to create a new one with some thin chipboard I then covered. The blank tag is for the year--haven't decided if I am keeping, selling, or giving this as a gift yet so it's all blank!

You can see one of the insert I made in the first picture. I varied it up with, pull-outs for pics, journaling, tags, but there are 15 of them total.

Now this was something fun I wanted to share....this is an up-close picture of the back of an adhesive back chipboard embellishment that I cover with flocking. It was a great way to give it a finished look while keeping it from sticking to the other page when the album is closed. I also used glitter to do some of the other chipboard pieces I had "hanging over the edge".

And now.....for my TWO projects :)

Here are TWO card sets I made.

The first one up; a few weeks ago I made a popsicle stick card. I thought they were so cute I decided to made a card set to sell at my craft fairs I do. This is my fruity version. I did TWO of each color. I paper pierced the lemons, limes, and oranges and added some glossy accents to them.

The second one here is another gift card set, but this one is an All Occasion set to sell. It has TWO thank cards, TWO happy birthday cards, and TWO friendship cards. Also, with this set I only used TWO pieces of pattern paper to create all of it (including the box).

Cotton Projects

Hi All! Just getting a chance to post these--it's been a crazy day! A bathroom project that should have been a quick fix is turning into some major remodeling...I hate house projects!! Today at Practical Scrappers we are doing a version of our monthly frugal finds with all the designers. We challenged our design team to use COTTON ( and shape, version, form of it) to create any kind of project. We picked COTTON because of the significance that you are supposed to give cotton gifts for 2nd wedding anniversaries. Here are the two that I came up with...

This one I used cotton medical gauze from my first aid kit I have in that dreadful bathroom I was complaining about. I spruced it up by inking with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distressing ink ( I could really use some de-stressing right now) and Sugar Maple Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels. All the pattern paper is by Crate Paper, Restoration Collection.

Here's a photo of my "cotton" gauze flower up close.

This is the other flower that I had just had to share a close up of because I loved how it turned out! I cut 4 some "blob"/flower shapes by hand (don't have to be the same size). I cut a little "v" into into each bump/petal. Inked with Tim Holtz Vintage photo distressing ink again. I then place them in a blow of warm water to help break the fibers down and crinkled up. While they were still wet I dipped the edges into to some Beacon's glue and dumped glitter over the glue. To finish, I shaped it with my fingers while drying with my heat gun (CAREFULLY). I just LOVE it!!

Here, I created this altered canvas for my parents (canvas made of cotton) that I painted with black acrylic paint and glimmer misted like crazy on (Tatter Angels Graphite and Marshmallow). All pattern paper, embellies, ribbon/fabric are from Bo Bunny Whoo-ligans Collection that included some cotton fabric (black and white check) I created her bow with. Hope my mom doesn't mind that I put it on my blog--I did promise not to post it on FB for all her friends to see :)

Circle Shape Cards!

I saw a card like this awhile ago and thought it was the greatest thing ever! Well, it just so happens that today we were having a feature at Practical Scrappers using circles in cards. It gave me the chance to try our my own version of what inspired me. Whether your card be circle shaped, circles on your paper, embossed circles, whatever....just as long as circles are involved we wanted to to see what you had that was "a- round".
So I designed this card using my Gypsy (Storybook and Plantin Schoolbook carts).
Basically, all there is to this the base is a scalloped circle (folded in half 5.5". The circle is 4.75". The next scalloped circle is 3.5" and the inside circle is 2.5".

Wood Grain Paper

Today at Practical Scrappers is the "Challenge Me Tuesday" feature and this weeks challenge was wood grain paper. This was one type of paper I did not own (can you believe it). So, me being the practical lady I am, I made my own using Ranger alcohol inks and some glossy cardstock. I used the earth tone colors carmel and ginger as well as my blending tool and solution. It's not my best card but I've been playing around with my alcohol inks on the side and this is the first project I am willinto put on my blog...hehe! I also used the alcohol ink (ginger) to change my white vinyl thickers to brown with some texture. The image I stamped is actually a cuttlebug embossing folder that I inked up and stamped with. What can I say, I was having all kinds of fun experimenting.

Creating the Perfect Bow!

I was introduced to this wonderful blog a little while back from "Red", Karen, at SAS when I hosted a little online crop and she created this beautiful bow on one of her cards. Her little secret was this blog called "The Amazing Paper Grace". Becca create her own little peg bow maker to help create her perfect bows every time. I finally got around to making my own peg bow maker. Now I changed mine up a little different from her directions, but that was because I found some decorate shelf brackets on clearance for $1.97 each, the other piece I wood I stole from scraps lying around in the garage, and the dowel was in the closet, all hardware and paint was on hand as well. So bottom line this cost me $3.94 to make and it is work every penny.

I have one less hole than Becca did (my piece of wood was smaller), but I can create bows from 1 inch up to 5 1/2" inches. I used my husbands drill with the spade to do my holes. The other thing that was different was since I used shelf brackets all I had to do was add 1 screw on each side ( I used a 3/4" wood screw) and lined it up with the slot on the bracket. For those of you who have never used shelf brackets before the tighter you put your screw into the wood (wall) the tighter the fit it will be (which means it won't wobble side to side). Finally to finish it up I gave it a two coats of my favorite color (purple) spray paint which was left over from mother's days projects I did two years ago. I can honestly say this is one of the best tools ever-- now more uneven bows for me!

Single Layer Card

Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring some single layer cards. This challenged me and was a first attempt not to layer pattern paper after pattern paper. I am in the process of preparing for fall/winter craft fairs and this is note card set I created (envelopes and all) that are 3 1/2" x 3 1/2". I used two different stamps on this and kept it simple with just two different inks as well. I also made the folder (which is behind the card) to hold both my note cards and envelopes for easy display at the craft fairs.

Nothing Says Summer like Strawberries & Popsicles!

I made this card for the CARDS challenge over @ the Create blog. & I combined my two favorite things about summer; strawberries and popsicles. The challenge this week was t use twine. I drew my own strawberry shapebon a piece ogres cardstock, cut it out, covered it in glue, then used a pair of tweezers to place my twine (working from the outside in). I really like how this turned and have decided i'm going to create some more using other fruit/flavors and make it a gift set!

Bring on the Crate Paper!

Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring my favorite manufacturer, Crate Paper. I became a huge fan when I first saw their "Snow Day" Collection in an LSS in November and couldn't believe I'd never heard of them before (small town, not a lot of choice). I picked it up, created a cute little snow globe card with it, and submitted it for their Customer Appreciation Week. Well, some how I managed to win a huge prize package that had like 12 different lines in it (the box weighed 16 pounds) and I haven't stopped creating with Crate Paper yet (and I won't be after seeing the fall preview of their three new lines, Farmhouse, Random, and Peppermint).

In the meantime, here's what I did with my Little Sprout Collection for a very dear friend of mine, who's baby shower I just went to over the 4th. She's due in September, but shooting for August:) She's promised me that she's not changing his name either (otherwise she get to send the frame back me to fix). I've got lots of pictures of this one to try and share the hole thing...

A Little Tacky

Last month we featured some coffee filters for our dollar store finds feature at Practical Scrappers. This month it's tape and not any of that Washi tape that is made for paper crafting. I'm talking about masking, scotch, packaging, and electrical. I have a layout that I didn't finish in time (too busy getting ready for a birthday party we had today). But here is my card...

Here's the process...

Cut out your image from a magazine (good way to use up those old scrapbook magazines you have around). Lay it on a flat surface and cover with packaging tape. Take a bone folder and rub over it until the image looks as if it has been laminated.

Let it set in a bowl of warm water 3-5 minutes (the longer it sets the easier he paper comes off).

Rub/wipe off the back layer of the paper gently with your finger--do not use finger nails as the will scratch off the image.

This is what it will look like finished. Let it air dry and cut/trim to desired size.

Gettin' Froggie!

This week's challenge on the Create Blog is to create an animal-shaped card. Something a lot of my friends and family do not know about me is I have this new found love for frogs. Don't know when it started or where it came from but I am drawn to all that frog paraphernalia that is out there in the stores right now (especially the baby stuff--too CUTE!). So here's a fun card I made for a friend of mine that I was on the phone with the other day having a conversation about where "the real" prince charming is! I'm sure she'll get a kick out of it!

Now most of the time when I create a shaped card I create my own SVG and use my SCAL & Cricut to cut it out. But this time, I decided to kick it back old school and do some fancy hand-cutting because this from idea came from a coloring page I had printed out from somewhere for my kids. I did a little piercing together and added my own fun twist --the tongue slides in when you open it up. To highlight my embossing I decided to pull out my Copic G17 marker and go over the embossing just to change the shade a little darker (also did this on the eyelids). To finish I went around the edge of everything with my black and drew in some lines to define the froggie legs.

Father's Day Envelope Mini Album

I ran out of time to create my husband the album I wanted to for Father's Day on Sunday, and I had remembered seeing this cute little envelope mini album a long time ago (probably last year when I was looking for ideas). So, I gave it a whirl and what you see, is what I came up with. I absolutely LOVE how this turned out. Probably my best quick gift I've ever created! I did this in less time that it takes me to do most of my layouts believe it or not!

What I absolutely love about this project is that you can adapt it to any size envelopes that you have lying around. There no set size. I chose to use 5X7 envelopes (which is really 5 1/4" x 7 1/4") because I don't make a lot of 5x7 cards so, I have an abundance of them. The inserts for the the photo were 5x7, with a 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 matting, and a standard 4x6 photograph (save some time from cropping photos). Then all you do is attach one to the other by gluing the flap to the front side (the side you would address) of the bottom of the other envelope. Fold it like an accordian (refer to pictures) and begin to cover and decorate however you like.

Card With Paper Weaving

So, I started doing the challenges two weeks ago at the Create Blog and now I seem to be an addict! This week's challenge was to create a card that used some paper weaving. I've done a bunch of paper weaving before, but they were all for baskets on Easter cards so I tried to think of something seasonal right now. It didn't take me long to think of a picnic blanket with red and white checks and the rest just fell into place.

Here's my summer themed card...

The picnic basket, water mellon, and grass sprouts embellies I created using some Cottage Cutz Dies in Cuttlebug.

Embedded Embossing

We are going to start a new monthly feature at Practical Scrappers where we "Focus On Technique". Erin, Christine, and I decided we would kick of this feature with embedded embossing. For those of you who haven't heard of this, it's basically starting with a base layer of card stock and adding layers (other cardstock, stickers, rub-ons) to it; running all of it through your embossing plates/folders to create one single layer look with your layers "embedded" into the base. It's a lots of fun and a great technique (some of you may have been doing it and not realizing that there was an actual technique for what you were doing).

Here are my two projects I did with this...

This first layout is a new Disney layout I did for my continuous work on this album ( I may finish it some year). I used the technique on the black cardstock that has the red and white different size circles I punched out. Also used it on the embellishements that stay, Road Trip and Taking Photos. They were stickers that I placed on cardstock and ran through my Cuttlebug using my Dots and Spots embossing folder.

This one same idea...cut 7 strips of red cardstock and placed it on my white base, added my 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 square of star pattern paper. Hand cut some stars and did my doddling. Glue it all down then ran the entire thing through my Cuttlebug using the Stars embossing folder.

And Finally....

Getting back to updating my blog--we'll see if I can keep up with it once the kids are home here in 8 days for the summer. The project I have to share with you today is a card that I made for my cousin's third birthday this past weekend. She was having a Wizard of Oz theme party and my mom asked me to make her a card. Here's what I came up with....

*I created the card base and rainbow stripes using my Creative Memories Custom Cutting System using the different sizes of circle patterns.
*Dorothy was a free SVG that I found online ( I have to go back and look but wil link to the blog I found it on).
* I embossed the card using my Cuttlebug--used Swiss Dots on the card and sun and D'Vine Swirls on the Clouds.
* Also, added some Christmas Red Stickles to the shoes (ruby slippers of course) and the face was stamped using Peachy Keen face stamps.

Crate Paper Snow Globe!

I submitted this project to Crate Paper for their Customer Appreciation Week where they were showcasing projects from three of their collections over the past week!
I used their "Snow Day" Collection to create this snowglobe shaker card I created by making my own SVG and cutting it on my Cricut.

Christmas Tree Tutorial & A Santa Layout!

I created a tutorial for my article today at Practical Scrappers. Thought I should also post it on my blog here as well! Hope you can follow along wasy enough, my video tutorial that I made was not uploading from the camera card to the computer.

Now these little trees can vary in sizes and you will always need to start with a square (6x6, 7x7, 8x8, 8.5 x 8.5, 12 x 12 are the sizes that I have done them). The supply list that I am going to give to you is based on starting with 12x12 piece of cardstock (for smaller sizes you will need less).

The Supply List(pictured above):

paper trimmer

hot glue gun

packaging tape or some other heavy clear tape

1- 12"x12" piece of solid cardstock (neutral colors--whites, beige, kraft--I just used green because I have a lot of it right now)

2 - 12" x 12" pieces of double-sided pattern paper

1 -3"x3" square piece of same pattern paper ( decrease this square if you make a smaller tree...example 8 1/2"x8 1/2" or 8"x8" make this a 2"x2" square)

paint brush

pencil

string (13" long)

bling, other embellishments, glitter glue, glitter to decorate your tree

Tie your piece of string to your pencil. You will want your string to be 12 inches long after you've tied it to the pencil ( or whatever size your cardstock was to start with). Holding the end of the string at bottom left corner of the 12"x12", extend your pencil to the upper left corner. While holding the string in place at the bottom left draw an arc from the upper left corner to the bottom right corner.

Cut paper along the arc that you drew.

Butt-up the two sides to meet, tape with heavy packaging tape to form a cone. This takes a little playing with to get the cone shape because the paper naturally wants to form a tear drop shape. I tape on the inside and outside of the seam keep my cone shape.

This is what your cone will look like.

Now using your paper cutter, cut your two sheets of pattern paper to 3/4"x3" strips of paper. I cut all my strips to 3/4" x 12" first them cut them down to the 3/4"x 3".

Curl your strips of 3/4"x3" paper around your thin paint brush (you can also use a pencil or something else round). I prefer a thin paint brush because I can get a tighter curl out of it.

Using your hot glue gun ( you could use other adhesive, but I prefer my hot gun because of the "instant stick" and you strips don't slide around), start applying your strips working all the way around the bottom then moving up. I have 23 strips on my bottom row.

I like to alternate my pattern paper on the rows when curling my pattern paper to make it more interesting. I end up with 8 rows on tree that I started with 12"x12" cardstock; 6 on one that started with 8 1/2" x 8 1/2". Once you've finished curling all your strips of pp, you will want to create a cone with your 3"x3" piece of paper the same way you created the base to your tree. This will become the top of your tree and hide the top that did not get covered with your strips.

Decorate your tree with acrylic gems, stickles, or other embellishments to finish off your tree.

Here's my tree placed on top of my Christmas tree as tree topper.

While I'm in the Christmas mood here's a LO I completed of my kids at Lunch with Santa from last year. Now, I can scrap this years pictures!

I've opened a new chapter in my scrapbooking this week! Today I finished my first ever craft show-- it went OK! Kind of slow, but I have another next weekend as well...keep your fingers crossed for me! Trying to raise money to send my son to Cananda!
I also stepped away from doing step by step picture tutorials and created my very first video tutorial! I think it turned out pretty well! Let me know what you think!

Think Pink!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help promote that The Cuttlebug Spot, one of my former design teams, has a challenge this week to support it! They decided to take inspiration from the colors (pink) and the theme (strength, love, hope, faith) of the month.

Here's what I came up with!

The ever so clever, Cristal "Pinky" Hobbs,came up with this cute bra and panty card back in 2008! I love this card and have used it many times, but this time I decided to create my own SVG from it to save me the leg work of hand cutting. Now I have the SVG file, to use with my cricut anytime I want! Thanks Cristal, as always, for your ever craftiness!
I used some Creative Memories Fashion Diva paper, my Swiss Dots embossing folder, wire, pink lace I got on clearance for 25 cents for a roll of 9 ft, a little piece of American Crafts pink ribbon, and I small flower with bling.

Newest Projects!

I haven't posted on my blog now for two weeks, guess I've just been too busy creating and doing the "real life" to get to it! Anyway, these were my projects for the the last two weeks at Practical Scrappers!
This was my project for the Stamp Challenge:

*what I did*
On this LO, I used the Stampin' Up 4x5 "Canvas" background stamp to create the matting behind her photo. Then I stamped with my Versa Mark then heat embossed with black embossing powder. I also used another Stampin' Up stamp (from Looks Like Spring Collection) to create the background on my yellow cardstock.

This was the my project from the Ribbon Challenge:

*what I did*
Recognize those papers? I was being practical and immediately used the scraps left over from my button LO project last week to create my card for the ribbon challenge. I went a little ribbon crazy this week and you might have a hard time telling. First, I used blue gross grain ribbon to create some separation down the center that she then hand-stitched some red floss down the center to draw the eyes in. Then I used some red yellow checked self-adhesive ribbon to create a layer of matting behind the digi stamp, "Love Ewe", from our Semptember sponsor, Robyn's Fetish. Next, I used that same ribbon to create a bow in the center of my card. And finally, I balanced off the left corner with a ribbon flower she created with the two different ribbons I used on this card. Was that enough ribbon for you?

Buttons Galore!!

This week's challenge item at Practical Scrappers is buttons! FOr our challenge this week, I wanted to step away from the regular old round buttons and add some fun by mixing it up with some decorative shape buttons that I got out of the clearance bin at Joann's for 50 cents for the 6 of them! I used my buttons to as a way to embellish my tree (like they were leaves or falling apples). Also, I decided to create a hidden journal tag behind my pictures and use the buttons as way to easily grab the tag and side it out to read!

White/Color Core Challenge @ Practical Scrappers.

This week's challenge is one of my favorite products to use mostly because I am such an addict to my Cuttlebug and all the cool techniques I can do with. White core and color core cardstock are so fun to use they can make your projects looked finished and sometimes even create more elegance.

Here's my project for this week:

I used Core'dinations color core (orange) cardstock that I embossed with the daisy folder in the With Gratitude combo pack. I then sanded it down with an emery board to reveal the light orange core. Also, you can see that I have been having a blast with my Copic markers coloring images, and they do do not disappoint! I actually feel like an adult doing all this coloring and blending now!

White Pen Challenge @ Practical Scrappers!

Here's my project for this week:

A simple little card I did using a digi stamp from our September sponsor, Robyn's Fetish, called "A Little Birdie Told Me". I used my white pen to doodle on the bird after I coloring with my copics and I used the white pen to create my sentiment.

Also, I have a LO I just finished up the other day for the Treasure Hunt going on at Treasured Scrapbooking. My project was eliminated so I can share it now! The hunt is a lot of fun and it's the second year I've done it now-- I always love the challenges they come up with. I will continue do the challenges even though I didn't make the cut just to play along. This LO also shows you how you can use your white pen on a LO so it fits in nice with this post!

At The Fair....

This is a bitter-sweet project for me....it's going to be my last at The Cuttlebug Spot. New design call starting next week and I don't think I have it in me to reapply. I've had a summer of "hell" with the tragedy that has struck us and right now I want to re-focus and get back to loving my scrapping rather than doing it to complete a project.

But, this is actually for my newphew Logan who is going to be baptized on September, 12th (I'm going to be his godmother). New Projects I Haven't Shared!

Behind again on the blog, but here's what I've been up to recently for both Practical Scrappers and The Cuttlebug Spot....not gonna type a lot, but I do want to share!
This was from a challenge that was going on at PS for our 1 yr anniversary....our Book Lover's Challenge where we had to quote from our favorite book. My favorite new series is the Dark Hunter Series and the quote I used was from the book, "Acheron", said by Acheron.

This one here is a LO of me from my wedding day. IT was also from our 1 year anniversary week where the challenge was to use the number 1 on Wednesday of that week on our projects.

This project was our weekly challenge after the 1 year anniversary week where we had to use summer themed stuff on on projects...I used some old beach pics, Reminisce water paper, Karen Forester's crab paper clip, some shell chipboard stickers for embellies (I know there's something I'm forgetting but cannot remember what?).

This was this pasts weeks challenge at Practical Scrappers. Stitching was the challenge at hand, and boy, was it ever a challenge for me. I broke both of my sewing machines in the process :) of trying to complete this card. I don't see myself machine stitching for a long time now. I'm going faux from no on!!

And last here is the project from The Cuttlebug Spot. After a two week vacation from the spot and a much needed rest for all of us there we came back with our weekly challenge and kicked it off with sympathy cards which is a tough one for me. I don't do a lot of sympathy cards so I struggled with this one, but in the end it turned out good.

This Week's Projects!

I am behind on loading up my projects with losing both of my grandfathers in a months time. We buried one on July 17th, and now turned around and buried the other on Monday. I've been on one heck of a roller coaster ride this summer and cousin of the family said it best to me, "When it rains it pours, but at least is summer and it cools you off." Thanks god it is summer because I'm not sure I'd be able to handle it all if it wasn't.

Anyway here is my project from the Cuttlebug. This week's challenge was to create a mini album. I created an album of my daughter's princess makeover from our Christmas trip to Walt Disney World. Now, if you look at the Cuttlebug Spot Blog, you'll notice a different picture. That's because I didn't have it finished when I had left for my grandpa's funeral, but now it's all done!

This project is from Practical Scrappers weekly project. We had to use at least 7 different items on our project.I used 12 different items on this calendar.

Embossing Challenge @ Practical Scrappers

This is my absolute favorite challenge we have at Practical Scrappers. There is not a machine out there that I enjoy more than my Cuttlebug. Don't get me wrong, I love my Cricut but, it is in a definite second place finish in my book. For this week's challenge I decided I'd share with everyone at Practical one of my favorite techniques to do with my Cuttlebug and Nestabilities that DT leader Nilda at The Cuttlebug Spot came up with and created this fabulous tutorial on how to do that you can check out here.

Here's my project:

The only thing that I do differently from the video is that I do not use the tan mat by Spellbinders. I use what they call Plumbers's Pack that I got from my Lowes (in the plumbing department). I comes in a few different thicknesses I have both 1/8" and 1/16" and it's a 6x6 square. You can buy them individually which only cost me $1.44 for the one piece and $1.19 for the other. Much more cost effective than the $8-$10 on the Spelldinders tan mat. I bought both thicknesses due the different thicknesses of chipboard there are. Behind On Posting!

What else is new?? I just keep forgeting to update my blog to share all of my work, so I'm going to do it all here in one post

Here's my design for The Cuttlebug Spot-- we are celebrating the 4th of July this week there-- don't forget you have to use your Cuttlebug on the project! Make sure to stop my and check out all of my DT sisters fabulous inspiration, plus there have been wonderful inspiration in the entries already that you won't want to miss out on checking out!

Here is my design for Practical Scrappers weekly challenge. The weekly challenge there is to use decorative scissors or border punches (or both). I used my "Victorian" style decorative edge scissors to create the photo corners. I also used my MS Double Loop border/corner punch combo set to create the edging on the background paper. Then for some fun, I cut 5 strips of 1 1/2 inch x 7inch paper and used her double loop border punch down each side. I folded the strips in half and added some ribbon and buttons to create the large flower.
Don't forget we have a design team call going on at Practical Scrappers and this weeks challenge will be the last opportunity to join in on one of our challenges before the July 5th deadline. If you've ever considered trying a join a DT, this is a great opportunity and a great way to be practical with the supplies you already have on hand!

Last we have a monthly bonus challenge going on at Practical Scrappers that "yours truly" is the hostess of these fun and unique challenges. I like being known for using items in a way that they aren't meant to be which is partly how this monthly challenge came to be. Christine, our fearsome Practical Leader--love you boss (;, approached me with the idea for it back in April and we've been rolling with for the past two months. I think we've been getting some great entries, and cannot wait to see what everyone does with this month's theme called, "Just Beachy". Pull out those items that you would find at the beach or would take to the beach and use them on your project.

Bag IT and Tag IT!

My project this is week is doing double duty for both of the challenge blogs I design for. At The Cuttlebug Spot it is tag week and at Practical Scrappers it is time to use up those flowers.

I created this gift bag for my darling daughter Delaney, who will turn 4 on June 28th. She's having a princess birthday party and this is for the gift that her brothers got her, which she is just going to love-- more silly bands! The pattern for this bag comes from My Scrap Chick in there newer collection of bigger bags! It was a must buy for me!!

The Cuttlebug Spot-- It's LO Week!!

Over at The Cuttlebug Spot this week we are doing another great challenge! We want you to show us how you can incorporate embossing on your layouts. This is one of my favorite things to do-- most people love their bug for cards, I actually prefer mine for LOs. I'm a big fan of adding some texture to my projects and embossing is peferect for that!

On this LO I used two different embossing folders, Swiss Dots and Spider Web. I embossed some iradescent vellum with Swiss Dots on the angel wings. Then I embossed the red photo mat and the half marquee with the Spider Web embossing folder then inked with some black glitter Studio g pigment ink.

Eyelet Challenge at Practical Scrappers!

Here's my design for our challenge this week at Practical Scrappers. I created this little fish bowl card for some fun!

here are the detail on the card and what I used:

At The Cuttlebug Spot! After the month long break there and then having some family things to deal with, finally a new project! Just in time for something new we are featuring. A Girl Can Never Have Too Many Shoes!

Try telling my husband that....well, at least this one that I've created isn't sitting out in the hallway or taking up space on the shoe shelf in the basement. Right now over at P K Glitz, Inc., they are having a challenge to create your own shoe (pattern available and all). This was so much fun!! I've been wanting to create my own shoe for a long time now and this challenge gave me the perfect chance to do so. I've always wanted a pair of the lace-up dress-up (you know like a pair of ballet slippers do). So I created my own shoe that laces up. I used two pieces of 18 gauge floral wire and covered the wire by gluing ribbon on both sides of it. Then the tough part was shaping-- I just added some Becaon's 3-in-1 glue where the two pieces cross over to help hold it's shape! I just loved how it came out! Thanks Jamie for telling me about the challenge ;)

Roll With the "Punches"!!

We are rolling with those "punches" this week at Practical Scrappers this week. Dust off those punches, border punches, corner rounders this week and show us how you can inspire us to use them. For my project this week I got my inspiration from Scrapbook & Cards Today's Blog using my Martha Stewart Double Loop Border and Corner punch combo set you can check it out here. One punch to create three different looks and they all are just fabulous!
Also to note on this project: I used an image from our May Sponsor *Wink *Wink Ink, called "Blossom Baby". I took a lot of time to create this one embellishment, because I wanted to try something different with a digi stamp. I getting to be pretty accustomed to Inscape and SCAL 2.0 now, so I have ventured out into "color tracing bitmaps". In other words, counting all the different colors you see in a jpeg image, then separating and creating a layer for each color. I was able to create my own SVG image that I could then cut on my cricut and make this paper piercing that you see. The only thing that I did color was the image of the sleeping baby. I actually printed it on glossy photo paper and was able to blend my markers a bit better, since I don't have any Copics yet :( *sigh*
Ok, so here's my LO:

This is my new nephew Logan, who turned a month old yesterday. I actually gave the LO to my sister on Sunday for her Mother's Day gift. It brought her to tears, which was what I was hoping for!

Blogger Issues?? Finally Some NEW Projects!!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been having so many issues with my blog lately and not being able to post things....I can post on other blogs that I belong to, post comments, but cannot create my own post? Go figure, I gave up trying last week to post the projects I wanted to and decided to finally give it a try again today.

So here's what you've missed that I been up to:

1.) The Cuttlebug Spot is on a well needed break! We are all taking a little vacation and will be back in action on June 1st with some new challenges and surpises for you-- Nilda hasn't even told us yet what she has in store for us so I am super excited!

2) Practical Scrappers Challenges:
Here was last week's sticker challenges

And something NEW at Practical Scrappers!! Each month we will be having a month long challenge that is "out of the norm" from our regular challenges at Practical Scrappers, created by yours truely!

The first challenge for the month of May is going to be called "Recycle, Renew, Reuse". Earth Day has just passed and we are full swing into the season of Spring, otherwise know as the season the renewal, rebirth, and regrowth. Your challenge is to create a project (LO, card, altered item whichever your preference)using a recycled item (cardboard, cereal boxes, popscicle sticks, plastic...etc)on your project to give it a new purpose than what it was intended.
Here is my example:

I have taken an old cassette tape case and altered it to create this "pocket picture purse" (as I call it)for those wallet size photos. I have also used a piece of recycled cereal box to create the accordian fold out for the pictures.

3.) The other things not affilated with design teams:

These projects here were created for my mother and my mother-in-law for mother's day gifts. I handmade each of these roses our of 22lb white copy paper. Each rose is composed of 5- 1" hearts (cut on cricut--Plantin Schoolbook), 6- 1 1/2" hearts, and 5- 2" hearts (only the large center one uses the 2" hearts. I inked them with Versa Magic inks using 2 shades in each color. Then I curled the rounded parts of the hearts using the smallest paint brush I have. The next part is where a lot of patience comes in to play. I attached each heart to a piece of 18 gauge piece floral wire that I folded in half and wrapped that completely with floral tape. Next, using floral tape starting with the 1" hearts in the center and finishing with 2" on the outside start adding your hearts one at a time. If you want a tutorial-- leave me a post here letting me know. I just figured out how to create a video with my camera so I will try and make one if I have enough interest!

What's your favorite flower?

For some odd reason I have not been able to get on my blog for over a week now, finally got it all straightened out with some assitance and I can post again. Here is my project for The Cuttlebug Spot this week. We all created projects with out favorite flowers. This week I went out on a limb and stepped out of my box and tried to make my own handmade rose. I am pretty pleased with the end result for a first attempt. I made my rose out of 22 lb copy paper that I inked up with three different shades of red/pink inks.

Another Spring Blog Hop Challenge!

As promised, here is my design for our challenge this week at Practical Scrappers. Our challenge at Practical Scrappers for the blog hop is "bling". Show us all your projects with that "glim and glam" on it!

On my project, I took a wooden birdhouse that I purchased at Joann's for only $1.00, painted the entire house with a base of teal acrylic paint. Then I pulled out last years DCWV Spring stack and started to find pattern papers that I liked. I grabbed a few that caught my eye and just started covering it. I used my Martha Steward "double loop" border punch to create the overhang off the roof. I also used my Colorbok turquoise metal tear drops to create the shingles and my Studio 18 rhinestones. The flowers I cut using my cricut and an SVG file from My Scrap Chick,one of my favorite places to find SVG's to use with my SCAL! The little birds are the brand new Inkadinkado summer release stamps that I found at my Joann's in the dollar bins.

Rub-Ons!

I will be honest, I use to hate rub-ons. I could never get those stupid things to turn out for me be, BUT that was until I got that awesome little tool by American Crafts that looks like a pencil point on one end and the other is slanted. I don't know what it's called because a friend gave me an extra one she had-- thanks Ethel. Anyway, my rub-ons never use to turn out using those silly popscicle sticks that come with the packages. I am really starting to get into now that they turn out perfect all the time!

Our challenge this week at Practical Scrappers is to pull out those rub-ons and show us what you can do with them! I used my Basic Grey rub-on "life's good" as my title for this LO and also used a Heidi Grace border rub-on to add a little something extra on this LO.

If I Had Wings....

What soaring creature would I be? I've always been fascinated with butterflies ever since I was child ( catching my cattepillars, putting them in jars, and watching them change). Some of my favorite exhits I've seen at zoos are the ones with butterflies, too. Well, this week at The Cuttlebug Spot we want to know what soaring creature you would be and use that creature in your project. I chose a butterfly and had the perfect die to use for this, my Cuttlebug butterfly die/embossing combo set.

Chipboard Challenge @ Practical Scrappers!

I finally get to share this project with everyone. It's been hard not to post it because it was my first creation on my new SCAL program and I am ver proud of how it turned out, and two... I've been talking about my sister's baby shower and the gift I made her to all my friends in the scrappy world but haven't been able to share. So here it is, my BABY word album made especially for my dear sister who is due in less than 4 weeks now!

White Pen Challenge!

It's doodling time at Practical Scrappers! Pull out those white pens and show us how you can use them this week at Practical Scrappers. I chose to pull out my Crafter's Workshop doodling templates that I have and my Bic Wite-out pen, yep, that's right,wite-out pen!! I have not found a white pen that I truely love yet, so until I find that special one that is as bright white as my wite-out, I will continue use my wite-out pen. Now some of ladies have asked me how I get it to keep from flowing out all over the place under my template when I am doodling, so I will share my secret. I first doodle with a white crayola colored pencil to get my perfect stencil, then I lightly trace over the white colored pencil with my wit-out pen. The trick with a wite-out pen is to apply minimal pressure (just enough to get it flowing) when you are doodling so you don't get those "blotchy" spots. It took me some practice to get the feel of how much pressure I should be applying. I practiced on some scraps of dark colored paper to get the hang of it.

*UPDATE May 20, 2010* I am also submitting this LO for entry in Examiner Scrapbook Contest for their weekly challenge which happens to be Disney.

The Spot does Vintage!

This was a a huge challenge for me. I love the look and enjoy the style, but I just don't do it that well. I think this was the most time I've spent on a LO in two years now. These are pics of my husband's great grandmother (center) and his grandmother and her oldest sister (bottom left. I had the perfect pics for this and I've been trying to figure out how I wanted to scrap them, but this challenge gave me all the inspiration I needed. I spent a lot of time distress this LO. Used my scissors and a lot of Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distressing ink (that I misted the paper with H2O after inking to create the yellowing spots). I also hand made all the flowers using my ribbon flower tutorial that I have posted. I just kind of threw on the string on pearls and played with it till I found something that was pleasing to my eyes. Ok here's my LO:

Wow am I behind!

Stamping fun at Practical Scrappers!

We all love our stamps and if you are like me at all you have way many more than you will ever need (but you gotta have them cause you never know when you might want to use that one). I love to stamp, but this week I wanted to do something I've never done before with my stamps and I found two fabulous tutorials that I just couldn't wait to try out.

The first card here I used the "chalkboard" technique. Here's the link to the Youtube video where I learned how to do the. It's really simple....all you need black cardstock, white craft ink, stamp, chalk, and a microfiber towel (lintfree towel---I've also seen it done using just a cotton ball, but I prefered how my image looked after using the towel)

The second card here is another great technique called paper casting with stamps. I tried this for the first time last week and used it on my project for the Cuttlebug Spot but-- I did it with embossing folders where I got the idea from my scrappy gf Aymee-- check out her blog here. Aymee got the idea of paper casting with embossing folders from Dani at Treasured Scrapbooking with her tutorial on her blog of paper casting with stamps that you can check out here-- don't you just love where the snowball of ideas come from! Anyhow, I wanted to make sure I gave credit where credit was due.

Note: When I wet my toilet paper, I mixed water with a scoop on Perfect Pearls in my mini mister to give it some shimmer (click on the picture to enlarge it and you will be able to see the perfect pearls). After my flower dried (which I sped up the process by taking my heat gun to it....carefully, your toilet paper will turn brown and start to burn if you get it too close), I chalked it up.

Double Embossing @ The Cuttlebug Spot!

Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me!! Even though I decided 4 years ago that I was done celebrating birthday so I could stay 29 forever, my family still insists that I have one...and I'm glad they did this year because it was a very good one. They took me to Perkins for breakfast, my mom made me my fav cake (chocolate with pb icing), and the DH and kids got me SCAL for my cricut...Can I get a WOOT WOOT!! I am very excited and cannot wait to get some free time to start playing (won't be until at least the weekend...*bummer*). Ribbon Flowers Tutorial

The are super easy and very cute-- plus a great way to use up some of that ribbon you have just lying around. Altered Picture Frames at The Cuttlebug Spot!

So this week I tried two completely new things for this challenge. 1.) I did some papercasting with toilet paper and my cuttlebug folders courtesy of my fellow DT sister and one of my first online scrappy friends Aymee Gandy(you can check out the tutorial Aymee made for this here). 2.) The second new thing was perfect pearls. I've had these things forever now, and have yet to use. So, I forced myself to try them and guess what?..........I will probably never do another LO or altered project without using them. WOW, are they amazing!! I just added a scoop to some water in a mini mister and went "spray happy" with it. here's the picture frame I made from scratch out of recycled cereal boxes ( I think you could say recycled cereal boxes are my favorite supply-- with a family of 5 who goes through cereal like we do I will never have a shortage of this and it's FREE!!).

You've Got Mail!

I absolutely loved this challenge that Nilda gave to us. Mostly, because I think of all the things that I love to create, altered items are my favorite!! So, we were supposed to use those super cute $1.00 Target mailboxes for this challenge. Well unfortunately, I do not have a Target within 2 hours of traveling and I had my girlfriend look for my and they did not have them. So I did what I do best...create my own. I found a pattern from Better Homes and Garden that I used for a template after enlarging it quite a bit, and created mine out of recycled cereal boxes (my favorite recycling item to use when scrapping) I added my own little twist here and there.

RObin's Nest Feature and Weekly Sketch at PS!

Ok, Well these first two LO's here are so fitting to the day we are having her in NW PA....all that snow!! All in all there are about 6 new inches of fresh powder on the ground (plus the 2-3 that were already there) which made for some fun sled riding this afternoon! The kids had a blast!! I had to bribe them with sledding since they were mad at me that we didn't get to drive to their friend Jack's birthday party due to the weather.
Anyhow, here the my LO's using the Robin's Nest kit that Christine sent to me. These papers were fabulous, and so were the rub-ons and dew drops!

Next here, is the weekly sketch challenge at PS. The sketch this week was done by Ann-Katrin. A very nice simple sketch that leaves yo a lot of room to do what ever you like with it.

Die Cut Challenge at Practical Scrappers!

Wow!! This is unusal for me three days into the week and three post-- I guess I'm on a roll right now with getting the projects done, taking the pics, and posting. We'll see how long I can keep it up before "life" interfers...lol! We've got another great challenge for you this week at Practical Scrappers--die cuts! IT can be any die cut your heart desires, but we just want to see them. We hit a record high of participants last week at Practical Scrappers of 112 entries-- let's see if it can be topped! And once again, thanks to all of you who are making that happen---AMAZING!!

I did this LO, too at my all day crop with the ladies on Saturday. I forgot to tell ya a funny story from the crop. So who's like one of the last people you'd expect to see at crop after not seeing them for nearly 10 years..........any guesses...............your college roommate! I walk in the door rolling my tote and carrying my cricut and I hear from across the room, "Kerri Yarus"! I just about died!! It was so nice to see her and catch up on her family. It's just wierd, of all places I could have run into her I see her at a crop...Ok, enough babbling here's my LO!

Scrap FIT Challenge #13-- My Hubby's V-Day card!

Ok ladies, this is kind of out of my element here, but I saw this card pattern by Pinky so long ago and thought it was one of the craftiest things ever, and I still love it!! This month at Scrap FIT Pinky is the guest designer and the challenge is to create a bra card for that someone special or a gf saying "I support u" or thanks for "your support". I made mine for my DH because I've been trying to think of something cute, but something I could make funny. I always like to add my sense of humor to my cards for him and this challenged just hit the spot for it!! You don't get to read the inside...for his eyes only... but I will share with you the front and the back of the card.

I kicked it up a knotch and did both the bra and panties, I evn stamped and heat embossed the little heart on it! I just couldn't resist putting a "heart tatoo" on the cheek...lol!!

CBS Post-IT Adhesive Paper Challenge

Good morning Monday!! What a fabulous weekend it was! I had full 10 hours of cropping all day Saturday with the ladies and it was a blast! Didn't get quite as much done as I wanted to, but I was very productive! This morning I'm going share one of the LO's I did...it is for our weekly challenge at The Cuttlebug Spot. Nilda sent us this wonderful 3mm adhesive backed paper by Post-IT, that can be inked, chalked, embossed, cut on die cut machines and my goodness was it fabulous!! I loved it (and so did that ladies that werer cropping with me) and cannot wait to get my hands on some more of it. It was so nice to cut on the cricut and not have to got back apply your own adhesive. So much for my no paper buying, as soon as I see this in the stores you better believe I will be snatching it up!

So, the adhesive back paper on the LO is the orange pumpkins, green scalloped frame, and the owl (he also has the orange adhesive paper behind him). This paper is every paper pierces dream come true I tell ya!! You all just have to get your hands on it...Joanns will be carrying as well as other stores. Little Star-- Baby Shower Invitation!

Good morning everyone!! It's a snowy day here in PA--3 days ago, the white stuff was gone. Now today, there's another 4-5 inches out there. Come on mother nature, make up your mind-- winter or spring? So, I finally finished my sis's baby shower inviations (all 84 of them)and they turned out ever so cute! She's doing her nursery in the Babies r Us --Little Star Collection which is super cute! here you can see for yourself....

Pattern Paper Challenge!

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is pattern paper, something I never seem have to little of. Pattern paper is my addiction when it comes to scrappy supplies, and it seems no matter how hard I try I always cave in and buy more. So for one of my New Year's resolutions I pledged to not buy anymore pp stacks until I use an entire one up. This is going to be very challenging for me, comsidering I have entire 33 gallon storage container filled with 12 x 12 stacks and eack only has a few pages gone from it. So to start I picked, I closed my eyes and picked a stack and pulled out my DCWV 2009 Christmas stack. Here's what I put together....

I used 4 different pp's on this.
All of the red cardstock was embossed with my 5 x 7 Holly Cuttlebug folder
Holly leaves were cut on my cricut using Stretch your imagination
"Christmas" was cut on my using Beyond Birthday

Now without further ado, here are my projects for you. The first here is a LO of my middle son, Jaedon, who just turned 5 on Wed. with his "girlfriend" at her bithday party in December. They have a crush on each other, and they are too sweet when they are together. So in honor of our LOVE theme, here is my LO "First Love".

The next project here is the Valentine's Day treat for my oldest son's class. The instructions are here at Splitcoast Stampers for their matchbox card. The woman who made this tutorial did the project with a sqaure piece of candy. I altered it up a bit to fit my longer Hershey bar. Instead of making the length 7 3/8" I made mine 7 7/8" (score at 3 1/2", 3 3/4", 7 1/8"). This will then fit the length of a 3 1/4" candy bar. For the inside of the project, I kept the same measurements because it worked fine.

BLING- A- LING, LING!!

This week at Practical Scrappers we are adding some BLING to the second week of the New Year. Why not have a "shiney" New Year like Rudolph? So here's my LO and the list of what I used for it.

DCWV paper and cardstock (Christmas Value Stack of 2008)
Stickles (Mint Ice and Diamond)
String of pearls
Threading water punch
Ribbon
Creative Memories journaling template
Cricut ((Platin School Book for title)

To create the acordian look with the threading water punch all you do is fold it like an acordian back and forth, but you skip every other hole so you can create the pleated look (just add a little adhesive in between to keep it flat). The strip of paper will need to be a 12" long (whatever width you want). You will lose over 1/2 of the length when folding it to make the pleats.

It's Party Time!!

Wow, it's been forever since I blogged after being on a 2 week Disney vacation, I finally settlesd back down into things and got my scrappy groove going again. It's a brand new year, and I've set myself some pretty big scrappy goals? What about the rest of you-- any scrappy goals for yourself? My top 3:
1.) Try to scrap a little every day
2.) Try to get organized-- yeah right, like this will ever happen for me
3.) Do not buy anymore pattern paper until I finish up an entire stack I already have( this will be the toughest for me)!

This week at The Cuttlebug Spot we are making party favors. Well, my Layton is turning 10 on the 15th and we are having a birthday party for him (and his brother Jaedon turns 5 on the 20th). I thought I'd make some cute little party hats for the party!

Embossed orange scalloped oval, #10, and confetti on top of the hat with Swiss Dots.
The scalloped ovals and "party time" were cut on my cricut.

Snowman Buffet Organizer

Wow, am I so behind on this blog. I've totally been neglecting it and haven't been posting my projects, I've just had too much going on. Anyhow, here is my newest creation (at some point I'll have to go back and fill in the gaps with everything else). This is an altered wine cooler pack (you could use any 4-pack or 6 pack container) that I turned into a buffet organizer for my silverware, and napkins to use at our Christmas dinner. That's really all you need, plus your paper, scraps, embellies, and a snowman pattern/ die cut. I used a paper piercing pattern that I got from My Scrap Chick, and just enlarged him to be about 7 inches tall. I did that in photo shop elements by cropping the part of the pattern I wanted and just enlarging that when I went print. You could do this with any pattern, or even cut the image from a cricut expression. I just happen to love snowmen, and my Christmas plates have snowmen on them as well.

Poinsettia Candle

Here's another Christmas project for you that is being featured today at Practical Scrappers. I love to alter candles and have actually been published in Scrapstreet.com October 2009 issue (see article here)for my candles that I love to make. This is my version of a poinsettia since I love to make flower tops for my candles.

Items you will need to make this candle:
1- 3" inch battery operated candle (you don't want your paper to catch on fire)
1- strip of pattern paper cut to 3 3/4" x 12" (to wrap the body of the candle)
14- red 2" leaves
7-green 2" leaves
6- 1/4" yellow circles (I use a 1/4" hole punch)
ribbon
embellies
a thin paint brush
markers for detailing

Now all you do is wrap the body of the candle with the 3 3/4" x 12" strip of paper. Add ribbon/trim at top and bottom of the candle (beads work well too). Add any embellies you like to the body of the candle too (you could also emboss this strip with a favorite Cuttlebug folder to add dimension instead of embellishing). Set this aside. Now we are going to construct the flower top. Take 7 of the red 2" inch leaves. Detail the leaf veins first before you put together--roll the tips of the leaves around your thin paint brush to create the curling up then just glue them together so they are just touching the leaf next to it. Repeat with second layer, but glue them in between two leaves to create layering. Last, repeat with green leaves but instead curling the green leaves up curl them under so them will hug the body of the candle ( this allows the flower to to sit on top and stay put). Now just add your 6 yellow 1/4" circles to the center of the flower top.

TGIF is all I can say....this crazy week is over and I'm ready to roll into the weekend! Doing lots of Christmas baking this weekend with my mom and my sis, so we should have lots of fun! Snowman Ornament

Here's a little ornament I came up with after seeing some ornaments that were just one layer of the round circles! We are a snowman loving family, so I had to try and come up with my own unique version.

Things your will need:
6- 1" white circles (embossed with your favorite cuttlebug folder-- I used snowflakes)
6- 1 and 3/4" white circles (again embossed if you prefer as I did)
6- 2 and 1/4" white circles (again embossed if you prefer as I did)
1- 1" black circle (for hat rim)
1 - 3/4" black circle (for top of hat)
1 strip of black paper 1" x 3" (for hat middle)
1 piece of ribbon 8" long
1 piece of wire 18" long
1 button
9 mini black pom poms (eyes, mouth, and buttons)
1 small triangle orange triangle shape (for the nose)

I will have photo instructions up a little later, my husband has the camera in his car and it has the pictures I took of the steps...sorry :)....I do much better visual instructions and I tend to get too wordy-- so I take pics and add notes!

Stitching Challenge!

This week at Practical Scrappers our weekly challenge was to create a project with some kind of stitching (faux, hand, machine), whatever your preference. I chose to use those Bazzil "In Stitch'z" butterfly template I've had for about 8 months now haven't used--time to be practical and use what you have!!

Here's my LO of the week, I finally got around to scrapping my Superbowl pictures from last year.

and here's my other Superbowl LO, that I got done...just had to share because my mother says she nevers sees any of my LO's with the middle child, Jaedon. Well, now she cannot complain because he made it on here and so did she!! LOVE YOU MOM!!

Acrylic Paint Challenge!

This week at Practical Scrappers we want you to pull out the dreaded acrylic paint and show us what you can do with that stuff! I've had these soccer pics since my son's first game of the season in September printed out and ready to scrap because I loved them so much!! Then I hit a wall creatively with them and couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with them. I was listening to my favorites on my free playlist at playlist.com and Saliva's "Click, Click, Boom" came on. I did one of those *look at the pictures, look at my computer screen, look at the pictures, look at the computer screen* and I realized my son was doing that-- *going to kick, going to kick, and boom!! big kick*. Well, with a grunge rock song theme inspired LO there was only one thing I could do for my background-- carboard!! I pulled out a good only 12 x 12 piece of cardboard, stripped off the top layer, and painted it up. Of course it also, required distress so I tore up papers and inked the edges. Then for my journaling box with all this distressing going on I had to pull out my Distressed Stripes embossing folder to give it that cardboard look, too. Oh, I also wanted to to tell that for my journaling-- I re-wrote the lyrics to the first verse of the cong Click, Click, Boom (my inspiration) to have a kids soccer theme!
Here's is my version of the lyrics:

On those Sunday's when kids go out and play,
I was out on the field blocking the balls all day!
Wasn't faded,
Not jaded,
Just a kid with a ball and his gloves and a big determination!
All this, I seek I find, I push my body to the line.
Block it,

Weekend Crop Fun!

Just another quick note, we are having our first ever online crop at Practical Scrappers on our forum and I am the "hostess with the mostest". The crop will run from Friday November 20th until Sunday November 22nd. You have until Monday, Nov 23rd at 9am EST to upload your entires.

Gobble, Gobble!!

It almost turkey time, and we want to see your turkeys on your LO's, cards, or altered project this week at The Cuttlebug Spot! For you this week I created this little Thanksgiving Blessing Mix and container. It was very easy to do...I cut an eight inch circle, then cut that in half. I embosses it with my Harlequin folder, then folded it to make a cone shape. Then I took three strands of raffia and braided it to created the edging of the cone. Next, I just tied a small bow with the pieces of the raffia I had left from braiding and glued it on. I cut the tag on my cricut using the Storybook cart. I cannot remember where I got the turkey paper piercing from (online for free somewhere), but I did alter it up a bit to make it my own. The turkey feathers I embossed with D'Vine Swirls and the turkey body I embossed with Swiss Dots.

White Core/Color Core Carstock Challenge at Practical Scrappers!

The challenge at hand this week is show us how you use that color core or white core cardstock. My favorite technique to do with them is to sand my embossing. I love to distress things, and really love the effect of the sanded embossing. Here is my design for the week! This is my newest Cuttlebug folder (Candy Cane Stripes) and I totally adore this one!
